Stainless steel flanges consist of primarily iron and the most important alloying elements as chromium (10–20%), nickel (8–14%), and trace amounts of molybdenum, carbon, manganese, and silicon. They contribute to these elements for their corrosion resistance, strength, and toughness. Mechanically, stainless steel flanges have superior tensile strength (of approximately 515–750 MPa), yield strength (of about 205–550 MPa), and desirable ductility and toughness at different temperatures. They also have high resistance to oxidation and stress corrosion cracking, therefore appropriate for hostile environments.
